Canadian serviceberry also called Juneberry, Shadblow Serviceberry, Shadblow, Shadbush, Shadbush Serviceberry, Sugarplum, Thicket Serviceberry is a small, understory tree. May also be a large, multi-trunked shrub usually growing in clumps with many upright branches. Its crown is delicate and open. Long petaled, white blossoms, opening before leaves emerge, are followed by a small, crimson-colored, edible, applelike fruit. Fall foliage is orange to rusty red. The Canadian Serviceberry grows up to 20 feet tall, sometimes taller. Canadian Serviceberry is cold hardy to USDA Zone 3.
Recommended Planting Instructions:
Scarification: Soak in water for 48 hours, change water each day. Stratification: Cold Stratify for 90 to 120 days. Germination: Sow seed 1/8" deep, tamp soil, mulch seed bed, for germination. Other: Fall sowing in mulched seedbed is prefered to artificial stratification.
