The Scotch Pine, also known as Scots Pine, has needles in bundles of two. The 1 2/3" needles are bluish green, stiff, and slightly twisted. Tree growth is fairly dense as a young tree, becoming more open and irregular with age. The trunk and branches develop a reddish, orange color. Old trees are often quite picturesque. Scotch pines are used widely throughout the world. The Scotch Pine is ofter a very popular choice as a Christmas tree. The Scotch Pine can reach between 30-50 ft tall and a width of 20-40 ft. It's hardy to zone 3. It prefers sandy, well-drained soil. It will also tolerate dry soil. Prefers full sun.
Recommended Planting Instructions:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand 48 hours. Stratification: Cold stratify for 90 days Germination: Sow seed 1/8" deep, tamp soil, and mulch seed bed.
Other: Can also soak in water for 48 hours, change water each day, then plant.
